Das frühere Beatles-Mitglied ist seit 2009 Ehrenmitglied im Förderverein Papageno Musiktheater e.V.
Durch seine persönliche Erlaubnis darf das Papageno Musiktheater sein "Liverpool Oratorio" in exklusiver szenischer Interpretation aufführen.
Zur Premiere des Liverpool Oratorios 2011 schickte Sir Paul McCartney einen Blumenstrauß und persönliche Grüße an Hans-Dieter Maienschein:

I’m very pleased to hear that you are performing my piece, the Liverpool Oratorio, in Frankfurt this weekend.
It’s always a very pleasant surprise to think that someone would compliment me and my music in this way.
